Chapter 1
Will Spann’s soon-to-be ex-wife, Lisa, had just one more stop before the final goodbye. Will had been the one to insist on a brief pitstop for a bit of food and a gas fill-up, but Lisa had been unwilling. They were both too eager to get on the road and start their separate lives.
So, on this bright summer day, they pulled into a gas station off the highway. Will said goodbye to Lisa, and climbed out of the car to fill it up. But when he turned around, he noticed that Lisa was nowhere to be found…
Chapter 2
Will frantically searched around the car, and then the surrounding area. But he quickly realized that Lisa had gone missing without a trace. Concerned, he approached the cashier in the gas station and asked if he had seen Lisa. The cashier, however, hadn’t seen or heard anything.
Worried and frustrated, Will called 911 for help. In no time, the local sheriff had arrived. After hearing Will’s story, the Sheriff quickly set off on a search for Lisa, asking Will to stay at the gas station until further notice.
Chapter 3
While waiting, Will frantically called all of Lisa’s friends, trying to find out if anyone knew where she could be. Unfortunately, none of them had seen her. His own desperate attempts to find her were also unsuccessful.
Half an hour later, the Sheriff returned with some shocking news. He had managed to track down Lisa’s phone, but it had been found all the way across town, in a seedy motel, with a strange man.
Chapter 4
Will was initially in shock, but then he quickly composed himself and jumped into the Sheriff’s car. The Sheriff drove him to the motel, and as they pulled into the parking lot, they noticed a figure heading towards the back entrance.
The Sheriff quickly pulled up and leapt out of the car – it was Lisa. She had been caught throwing her bag into the trunk of the strange man’s car.
Chapter 5
The Sheriff quickly apprehended the mystery man, and questioned him while Will took Lisa aside to ask her what was going on. Lisa finally broke down and explained that she had only been trying to escape from her unhappy marriage.
The Sheriff quickly released the mystery man, and told Will and Lisa to take a few days to cool off. He gave them a stern warning that if he ever caught them in a similar situation again, he would not be so lenient.
Will and Lisa agreed, and with a heavy heart, Will drove off with Lisa in the car, off to the next stop on their journey – starting a new life, together.
FADE IN:
EXT. GAS STATION – DAY
We see Will Spann’s (Gerard Butler) truck in the parking lot of a gas station. He’s seen filling his truck’s tank with fuel. His soon-to-be ex-wife Lisa (Jaimie Alexander) is by his side.
LISA
(sighs) Well, I guess this is it.
She sighs again, then turns to look at Will.
LISA (CONT’D)
You know, if things were different…
WILL
(smiles sadly)
I know.
Will reaches out and takes Lisa’s hand.
WILL (CONT’D)
We had some good times, huh?
LISA
(nods, tears in her eyes)
Yeah. We did.
She looks away, not wanting Will to see her cry.
WILL
Come on, I’ll walk you to your car.
Will helps Lisa into her car and they embrace with a final hug. He steps back and watches Lisa drive away.
EXT. GAS STATION – LATER
We see Will Spann’s truck parked in the same spot in the parking lot. He’s nowhere to be seen. Suddenly, his cell phone RINGS.
INT. WILL’S TRUCK – DAY
Will answers his cell phone. It’s Sheriff Russell Hornsby (Russell Hornsby).
SHERIFF HORNSBY
Mr. Spann, this is Sheriff Hornsby. We need to talk.
Will looks worried.
WILL
What’s wrong?
SHERIFF HORNSBY
We’ve got a missing person report. A woman matching your ex-wife’s description was seen at this gas station a few hours ago, but hasn’t been seen since. We need to know if you saw her.
Will’s face turns pale.
WILL
Yes, she was with me. We were saying goodbye.
EXT. GAS STATION – DAY
Will is talking to Sheriff Hornsby. They’re both looking around the parking lot, the nearby woods, and the store.
WILL
I don’t understand. Where is she?
SHERIFF HORNSBY
We don’t know. We’ve got a team searching the area now. We’ll find her, don’t worry.
Will sighs and rubs his forehead.
WILL
(quietly)
Please find her.
EXT. WOODS – DAY
We see a team of search and rescue personnel combing the woods for any sign of Lisa. They’re talking in hushed tones, searching under bushes and around trees.
EXT. GAS STATION – DAY
Will is walking around the parking lot, looking for any sign of Lisa. He stops when he notices something on the ground. It’s a piece of Lisa’s jewelry. He picks it up and stares at it for a moment, then puts it in his pocket.
EXT. WOODS – DAY
We see the search and rescue team continuing their search. One of the members stops and looks around, then points to a spot in the distance.
SEARCH AND RESCUE MEMBER
(yelling)
Over here! I found her!
EXT. WOODS – DAY
We see Will and Sheriff Hornsby running towards the spot. When they reach it, they see Lisa lying on the ground, unconscious. Will kneels next to her and gently shakes her.
WILL
Lisa! Lisa, can you hear me?
Lisa slowly opens her eyes. She looks groggy and confused.
LISA
(weakly)
Will…
Will gently takes Lisa in his arms and holds her close.
WILL
(tearfully)
I’m here, Lisa. I’m here.
FADE OUT.
