They stepped closer to the tree, and Tom reached out to touch one of its branches. He closed his eyes, focusing his mind on the task at hand. He could feel the energy coursing through him, filling him with a sense of purpose and determination.
“Tom,” Izzi said, her voice soft and gentle. “I love you. Whatever happens, know that I love you.”
He turned to look at her, his heart breaking. He had always known that this moment would come, that he would have to make a choice between saving her and saving humanity. But he had never been prepared for how much it would hurt.
“I love you too, Izzi,” he said, feeling tears sting his eyes. “More than anything.”

And then, just as suddenly as it had begun, it was over. The beam of light faded away, and Tom slumped to the ground, gasping for breath. He opened his eyes to see the Tree of Life glowing brightly, its energy radiating outwards in all directions.
He turned to look at Izzi and saw that she was no longer there. In her place was a small sapling, its leaves shimmering with the same energy as the tree.
“Izzi,” he said, his voice breaking. “Izzi, where are you?”
And then, he saw her. She was standing a few feet away, smiling at him with a look of peace in her eyes.
“I’m here, Tom,” she said softly. “I’m right here.”
He crawled towards her, tears streaming down his face. She took his hand and pulled him close, holding him as he wept.
“It’s okay,” she said, stroking his hair. “It’s all going to be okay.”
“But you’re gone,” he said, his voice choked with emotion. “You’re…”
“I’m not gone,” she said, shaking her head. “I’m right here, in this sapling. I’m a part of this tree, just as I’m a part of you. I’ll always be with you, Tom. Always.”
He looked at her, his eyes filled with wonder. He had always known that she was special, that their love was something that transcended time and space. But he had never imagined that it would be like this.
“I love you,” he said, his voice trembling.
“I love you too,” she said, smiling at him.
And then, they were gone. The Tree of Life faded away, and Tom was left alone in the darkness.
But he knew that he was not truly alone. He could feel Izzi’s presence all around him, in the energy that surrounded him, in the memories that filled his mind. And he knew that he would carry her with him always, that their love would never truly die.
He stood up, dusting himself off, and looked around at the world around him. It was a world that was forever changed, a world that had been touched by something greater than himself.

What is that, Tomas? It’s beautiful.
TOMAS:
That, my queen, is the Fountain of Life. Legend has it that those who drink from it will gain eternal life.
FATHER AVILA:
(nervously)
But, my lord, this area is occupied by the Mayans. We should proceed with caution.
Suddenly, the group is ambushed by a group of Mayan warriors. A fierce battle ensues, but Tomas and his soldiers manage to defeat them.
TOMAS:
(to the wounded soldiers)
We must press on. We’re close.
CAPTAIN RODRIGUEZ:
(sneeringly)
And what of the Mayan treasure we just captured? We should turn back and be done with this foolish quest.
Tomas gives him a withering look.
TOMAS:
We will continue. The Fountain is near, I can feel it.
Isabella touches Tomas’s arm, an unspoken understanding between them.
ISABELLA:
I believe in you, Tomas. Do what you must.
Tomas gives her a small smile and continues on, leaving Captain Rodriguez to grumble to himself.

Scene 2
INT. LAB – DAY
Tom, a disheveled but brilliant scientist, is pouring over research notes and lab equipment. He jumps as his phone rings and answers it.
TOM
(into phone)
Izzi, how are you feeling?
A weak voice responds from the other end.
IZZI (V.O)
I’m okay, Tom. I was thinking about you and your work.
Tom’s face softens as he listens.
IZZI (V.O) (CONT’D)
I want to see what you’re working on.
TOM
Izzi, you know I can’t bring that kind of thing into the hospital.
IZZI (V.O)
Not here. I mean, I want to come to the lab.
Tom hesitates before finally agreeing.
TOM
Okay, but just for a little while. I’ll set up a chair for you.
INT. LAB – LATER
Izzi is sitting in a chair near Tom’s workbench while he moves around, checking on his experiments.
IZZI
What is this one?
TOM
This is a new strain of coral I’m testing for its regenerative properties.
Izzi’s eyes widen in interest.
IZZI
And this?
TOM
This is what I’m most excited about. It’s a type of tree that we believe could hold the key to eternal life.
Izzi looks surprised but intrigued.
IZZI
What are the ethical implications of that?
Tom shrugs, clearly conflicted.
TOM
I know it’s dangerous. But I can’t help feeling like there’s a way to do this ethically, to use it for good.
Izzi smiles softly.
IZZI
That’s why I fell in love with you, Tom. Your heart is always in the right place.
Tom smiles back but his expression is sad.
TOM
I wish that was enough to save you.
Izzi’s face falls.

Tom quickly changes the subject, eager to show her something else.

Come on, I want to show you the fungal cultures we’ve been growing.
He leads Izzi to another part of the lab, determined to take her mind off her illness even for just a little while.

INT. TOM’S SPACESHIP – DAY
Tom sits in the cockpit of his spacecraft, staring out into the endless void of space. Suddenly, Eve’s voice crackles over the speakers.
Eve: Tom, we’re approaching the coordinates of the Tree of Life.
Tom: Excellent. Prepare to make contact.
Tom flicks a switch, and a holographic image of the Tree appears before him.
Tree: Welcome, Tom. I sense great purpose in your journey.
Tom: I seek the source of all life. Can you guide me?
Tree: I can, but the journey is perilous. Few have attempted it and fewer have succeeded.
Tom: I’m willing to take the risk. What must I do?
Tree: First, you must surrender yourself to me. I must become a part of you, and you a part of me.
Tom hesitates for a moment before nodding his agreement. The Tree’s branches extend towards the cockpit, tendrils of energy enveloping Tom’s body.
Tom: What’s happening to me?
Tree: I am integrating my consciousness with yours. We shall journey together.
Tom’s mind is filled with visions, memories, and emotions as he and the Tree journey through the universe. Time loses its meaning, and Tom feels himself becoming a part of something greater than himself.
Suddenly, the Tree’s voice echoes in his mind once more.
Tree: We have arrived. This is the source of all life.
Tom looks out the window, and he sees a blinding light. He can feel the Tree’s energy coursing through his veins, and he knows that he has become a part of something eternal.
Tom: Thank you, Tree. I feel…complete.
The Tree’s consciousness withdraws from Tom’s mind, leaving him feeling both exhilarated and exhausted.

TOMAS:
But my love for you is worth more than anything else in the world.

Tomas, you must choose the greater good. Bring them the tree.
TOMAS:
I cannot abandon you like this.
ISABELLA:
Then there is no hope for our people. You must save them, Tomas, even if it means losing me.

Suddenly, the spacecraft shakes violently, and Tom’s bubble spins out of control.
TOM
Maya, what’s happening?
MAYA
We’re under attack! The debris is hitting us. Hold on, Tom!
The bubble crashes against the wall of the spacecraft, and Tom is momentarily disoriented. He sees his precious tree, which holds the power of eternal life, floating towards him. He grabs it and holds it close.
TOM
We have to protect the tree at all costs!
MAYA
Captain, we need to retreat. It’s too dangerous.
CAPTAIN (over the intercom)
Negative. We have a mission to complete. Tom, keep the tree safe. Maya, get to the controls.
Maya rushes to the controls while Tom holds onto the tree for dear life. The spacecraft lurches and shakes as debris bounces off the hull.
TOM
Maya, we’re going to make it, right?
MAYA
We have to. We’ve come too far to fail now.
Finally, the debris clears, and the spacecraft stabilizes. Tom breathes a sigh of relief, but he knows they are still far from achieving their goal.
TOM
I hope the tree made it through okay.
MAYA
I’ll check the readings. Tom, I have to say, you handled that very well.
TOM
Thanks, Maya. I guess my training paid off.
The spacecraft continues its journey through space, with Tom and Maya determined to overcome any obstacle in their quest for eternal life.
