Prologue

Frank Adler had a small life in a small town, by all appearances. He was a single man, raising his niece Mary in a coastal town in Florida. She was a bright and spirited girl, who, to Frank’s surprise, began to show signs of a genius level intellect at a young age.

When the seven-year-old Mary’s mathematical abilities began to attract the attention of Frank’s formidable mother, Evelyn, Frank knew his plans for a normal life for his niece were quickly slipping away. Evelyn was determined to take Mary to her own home, to be tutored and groomed as a young prodigy.

Frank’s dedication to keeping his promise to his brother and to give Mary a normal childhood was put to the test, and he had to make a difficult decision. He was not sure if he was going to be able to give Mary the future she deserved and he was not sure if he was going to be able to keep her away from his domineering mother.

Chapter One

Frank felt helpless as he looked at Mary. She was a precocious seven-year-old, but he knew in his heart that she was capable of much more than he could ever give her. He sighed and looked out the window, lost in thought. All he wanted was to give her a normal life and not have the pressure of being a child prodigy.

Evelyn, Frank’s mother, had been relentless in her pursuit of Mary and Frank could tell she was determined to take her away from him. He knew that he could not fight his own mother, but he was determined to give Mary the future she deserved.

Suddenly, the doorbell rang, shattering the tension in the room. Frank took a deep breath and opened the door to find Evelyn standing there. She looked at him with a stern expression and said, “I am here for Mary.”

Frank stepped aside and allowed her to enter. Evelyn made her way to the living room, where she was greeted by Mary. Evelyn looked around the room and said, “I can see that you have been keeping her safe, but it is time for her to come with me.”

Frank looked at Mary with a pained expression and said, “Mary, it’s time. You have to go with your grandmother.” Mary looked up at him with sad eyes and Frank knew that he had to do what was right for her.

He embraced her tightly and said, “I love you, Mary. I will always be here for you.” He looked into her eyes, and they both knew that no matter what happened, they would always have each other.

Chapter Two

Evelyn and Mary left the house and Frank watched them go with a heavy heart. As they walked away, he thought about how his life had changed since Mary had come to live with him.

He had always been a simple man, content with his small life in a small town. But now, he was faced with the difficult task of raising a child prodigy. He knew that it was his duty to make sure she had the best possible future, even if it meant letting her go.

He had been fighting the inevitable for months, but he knew that the moment had finally come. With a heavy heart, he went back inside and tried to distract himself from the sadness he felt.

He went to his room and retrieved a picture of Mary when she was a baby. She had always been a bright and active child, even then. He remembered the first time he had met her and the way she had immediately captured his heart. He looked at the picture with a bittersweet smile and put it back in its place.

Chapter 2.5

Frank was soon lost in thought again. He thought about how his mother had always been so determined to make sure Mary had the best possible future. He knew she meant well but he could not help but feel resentment towards her. After all, she was taking away the daughter he had grown to love like his own.

He was suddenly pulled out of his thoughts by a knock on the door. He opened it to find his mother standing there. She had a stern look on her face, but Frank could tell that she was feeling just as conflicted as he was.

She looked at him and said, “I know how hard this is for you, Frank. But I promise you that I will take care of her. I will give her the best possible life.”

Frank looked into her eyes and saw the sincerity there. He nodded in agreement and hugged her tightly. He knew that this was the right thing to do, even if it was going to be hard.

As the years passed, Frank kept his promise to his brother and made sure to stay in touch with Mary. He visited her whenever he could and was always there with words of encouragement and support.

Mary continued to blossom under her grandmother’s care and soon became one of the brightest minds in the world. She became a Nobel Prize-winning scientist and made incredible contributions to the scientific community.

But no matter how far Mary went, she never forgot about the man who had given her a normal childhood and a chance to be her true self. Every time she achieved something new, she couldn’t help but think back to the man who had given her the opportunity.

One day, Mary was invited to give a speech at the Nobel Prize ceremony and she couldn’t help but think of her Uncle Frank. She knew that without his selfless love, she would have never gotten this far. So, she dedicated her speech to him, thanking him for his unwavering support and love throughout the years.

Frank was overwhelmed with emotion when he heard her speech and knew that, no matter how far she had gone, he was always going to be part of her journey. He smiled, knowing that his promise to his brother had been fulfilled.

Mary had a bright future ahead of her and he was proud to have been a part of it.
