A small fishing boat drifts along, a single figure at the helm. This is the MARINER.
EXT. MARINER’S BOAT – DAY
The Mariner is a hardened sailor, a loner who’s been living on the sea for as long as he can remember. As he looks out over the horizon, he notices something in the distance.
EXT. OCEAN SURFACE – DAY
A small island is just barely visible in the distance.
EXT. MARINER’S BOAT – DAY
The Mariner rows toward the island. As he gets closer, he notices something strange – two people are standing on the beach, waving their hands.
EXT. ISLAND BEACH – DAY
The Mariner pulls his boat ashore and jumps out. He cautiously makes his way closer, and soon realizes that the two people on the beach are a woman and a young girl. The woman is frantic, and waves the Mariner closer.

A massive boat is headed straight toward the island. Two figures stand on the bow – the DEACON and his lieutenant.
EXT. ISLAND BEACH – DAY
The Mariner turns to the woman and girl.
MARINER
We need to get out of here. Now.
The Mariner grabs the woman and girl and pulls them into the boat. He starts rowing away, as the Deacon’s boat quickly closes in.
EXT. OCEAN SURFACE – DAY
The Deacon’s boat is gaining on the Mariner and his passengers. He looks for an escape, but there’s nowhere to go. Suddenly, a large wave crashes into the boat, sending it spinning out of control. The Mariner manages to keep control of the boat and rows away from the Deacon and his men.
EXT. ISLAND BEACH – DAY
The Mariner and his passengers make it to safety, ashore on another island. He looks back at the Deacon’s boat and realizes that they’re safe for now – but for how long?
The Mariner turns to the woman and girl.
