Chapter 1 – A New Beginning

Sera grins and leads him down the street, stopping at an empty storefront.

EXT. STREET – DAY
Ben and Sera step out of the store, arm in arm. They walk down the street, enjoying the sights and sounds of the city. As they approach a crowd of people, Ben notices a familiar face in the crowd.
BEN
Mom!
Ben’s mother stands in the crowd, tears streaming down her face. She runs to embrace her son, nearly knocking him over in the process.
MOM
Ben! I can’t believe it’s you!
Ben smiles and holds her close, immensely grateful to see his mother.
MOM (CONT’D)
What are you doing here?
BEN
Starting a new life.
Mom looks at him approvingly, happy to see her son doing well. She then looks past him, noticing Sera for the first time.
MOM
And who is this?
Ben smiles and puts his arm around Sera’s shoulders.
BEN
This is Sera. We’re together now.
Mom takes Sera’s hand in hers and smiles.
MOM
Welcome to the family, Sera.
Sera smiles, feeling welcomed and accepted. Ben looks around at the people in the street and takes a deep breath, feeling content in the moment.
